Greetings on the staging of the 31th Image Forum Festival.
This festival was started in 1987 to succeed and further develop the “Experimental Film Festival” that had been held from 1973 to 1985, and has been held ever since as the only venue in Japan where cutting-edge moving image works originating from individual artists can be freely presented. I am very grateful to the many people who have given us their cooperation and assistance over the years.
This year we are screening one hundred and thirty-six works in thirty-three programs and presenting one installation. From the latest domestic and foreign works to historical masterpieces, I encourage you to enjoy these instances of visual expression brimming with originality. In addition to screenings, the festival also includes many programs of discussions and lectures featuring moving image makers and curators. I hope it provides everyone who attends an opportunity to experience the excitement and potential of moving image works more profoundly.

I would like to express my sincere gratitude to those who provided us with sponsorship, collaboration, subsidies and support, all of the artists whose works will be presented, the members of the jury, those involved in film distribution, and everyone who gave us valuable advice.
