Pat O’NEILL (1939-) is a unique figure in the field of American experimental film. A filmmaker with deep-rooted ties to both the avant-garde and its polar opposite, Hollywood, O’Neill has created distinctive experimental films using optical printers throughout his 60-year career, while also working as a special effects specialist for Hollywood films at his own company.
In this special program, a selection of stimulating masterpieces including his debut film By the Sea (1963) to Water and Power (1989) shall serve as an overview to his career, which has seen him open up new forms of visual expression to the world.
