The House of Loss

JEON Jinkyu / digital / 10min. / 2022

Elderly people getting their hair cut in a nursing home. Their blank expressions suddenly transition to a fireworks display of a certain summer. Against the backdrop of the cruel march of time, incurable mental illness, and the history of the war, this animation is told from the perspective of “me,” someone who has not known war but is looking at my elders who bear the scars of the Korean War even today.

Sleepin’ager Waking

FUJII Anna / digital / 11min. / 2021

One day a fortuneteller told me, “Your spirit will be sleeping until you are thirty-two years old.” “Was life until now a dream?” A self-documentary that approaches the passage of time in life that hits everyone suddenly from an angle only possible for a filmmaker in their twenties. The daydream monologue and images that seem to be woven between sleep and wakefulness create the filmmaker’s distinctive poetic worldview.

Anxious Body

MIZUSHIRI Yoriko / digital / 5min. / 2021

The swelling of skin pulled by cellophane tape, a turned-up hangnail like a flower petal ‒ this is a tactile animated work that seems to transmit detailed physical sensations through the screen. Illustrations with the soft touch of pastel colors and subtle sounds combine to create a pop, erotic world. Selected for competition in the Directors’ Fortnight at the 2021 Cannes Film Festival.

MIZUSHIRI Yoriko
Born in 1984. Filmmaker. She expresses textures using everyday motifs such as parts of the body through her animation works.

A Pile of Ghosts

Ella RAIDEL / digital / 70min. / 2021

At the start, your eye is drawn to a replica of the Eiffel Tower in China. China is in the midst of the rapid change of construction rush, where destruction and construction are repeated and unrealistic city plans are overissued. It is a scene that mixes reality and fiction. An experimental work that depicts modern Chinese cities at the mercy of capitalism.
