S Christoph SCHLINGENSIEF: A life of Provocation

Christoph Schlingensief is a film director known in Japan for cult movies, for his works in “German Chainsaw Massacre”, and “United Trash”. Originating from experimental film, Schlingensief built his filmography as a cult movie director. He eventually expanded his works to the theater, television, public art projects, and even forming a political party for the socially oppressed. In 2010, in the midst of planning construction of an opera house in Africa, Schlingensief had passed away. Though not finished, his works for the 2011 Venice Biennale won the Golden Lion for that year. In this program, Schlingensief’s broad range of works, which include unreleased footage, performances, and TV shows, will be showcased in a scope that has never been done before in Japan.
