The first special program of works by this Mexico-based collective that championed “materialist mysticism” and “anti-colonialism” to be screened in Japan!
Colectivo Los Ingrávidos, a Mexico-based collective formed in 2012 in Tehuacán, Puebla, questions the dominant form of moving images shaped by the nation, capital, and the mass media. Combining 16mm film, digital video, found footage, poems, acoustic elements, and indigenous culture and myths, this group has released more than 500 works and developed a distinctive cinematic practice addressing politics, the body, ritual, history, and memory. This special program introduces this collective’s radical cinematic world through works that have attracted attention at international film festivals, art galleries, and cultural institutions such as MoMA, the Rotterdam International Film Festival, and the e-flux Screening Room.
