Corporate Accountability

Johnathan PEREL / digital / 68 min / 2020

A complicit relationship between corporate principles in pursuit of profit and an oppressive military dictatorship. This is a political documentary with a touch of suspense which exposes the forgotten truth in its landscape and scenery.
Tens of thousands of people are kidnapped, imprisoned and killed in Argentina from 1976 through 1983 when a military dictatorship ran the country. This was an incident of the past which occurred in the 1970s. However, most of the big corporations which cooperated with the military regime by systematically handing over its workers to the government are still in operation today. The tension and excitement on the part of the filmmaker can be felt as he secretly takes images of the front gate of a corporate factory located beyond the front glass of his car, as if this is a stake out of an undercover investigation. The technique used to present such vivid landscape imagery drew much attention at the Berlin Film Festival and the International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam, where the film was shown.
