The first Japanese feature on Patrice KIRCHHOFER (1953-2019), the most enigmatic auteur in French experimental cinema.
A self-described “filmmaker, musician, painter, writer, and meeting organizer,” KIRCHHOFER was influenced by linguistics and structuralism, and pursued the kinetic aspect and primordial experience of film. This program features a representative figure of the French experimental cinema of the 1970s who has not yet been introduced in Japan. “The freezing of intermittent movement, the colors of atomic brilliance, the figures seemingly attacked by light, the terrifying music, the sense of the end of the world, all these things make Chromaticité I one of the most powerful pieces in French avant-garde cinema.” —Dominique NOGUEZ, writer
