M is for “March”
ITO Ryusuke / Mixed media, projector / 2020 / Japan
A new work by ITO Ryusuke, an artist who has created many installations incorporating miniatures and moving image equipment. An homage to Fritz LANG’s Metropolis, it combines a compact camera and a device created in the early days of cinema called the“ Kinora.” Along with images from the “Kinora,” the filmmaker’s humor-laced, critical stance toward technology and modern history is layered atop the marching of“ Maria,” the female robot who appears in Metropolis. Collaboration: Tomakomai City Museum.
