This is a new work by ITO Ryusuke, who has created many installation works on the theme of the state of images and media itself, combining miniatures and everyday items with video devices. This unique work combines a monitor with a case to hold a Japanese abacus called a “Soroban box,” which is not seen in everyday life anymore. The work is an attempt to humorously critique the media and its era by focusing on the existence and attributes of the supports (devices) that make images possible as “things” just like everyday sundries and furniture, in a video media that is becoming increasingly digitized (cloud migration and downsizing).
