The Stormy Times
Originally conceived as three-part work of “song/haiku/poem cinema,” this work underwent substantial changes after the death of lead actor JŌNOUCHI Motoharu in a traffic accident. The two latter parts were then created as an expression of mourning for JŌNOUCHI. Combining Grasshopper’s One-Game Match, the “haiku part” in which the camera follows KANAI’s everyday fantasies in a single, eleven-minute shot, and We Can Hear Joe’s Poem, the “poem part” in which poems by JŌNOUCHI and KANAI resonate with each other, the finished work stands as a sublimation of loss through the power of creation.
