Trouble in the Image
A Special Feature exhibition of films by Pat O’NEILL, a pioneer in Optical Compositing technology and a major filmmaker of experimental films representing the West Coast of the United States.

As a special effects advisor to the film “2001: A Space Odyssey” and a filmmaker of experimental films from the West Coast of the United States, Pat O’NEILL has made a huge impact in the area of film with his pioneering efforts in compositing visual technology using the optical printer. Works to be shown include his debut film, “By the Sea,” made in the early 1960s, “Saugus Series,” an optical work masterpiece, as well as “Trouble in the Image,” which will be exhibited in Japan for the first time. Such a group of stimulating masterpieces shall serve as an overview to his career, which has seen him open up new forms of visual expression to the world.
