Human Chapter is the first work in the Smiling Milky Way Trilogy. Hidekuni, a boy who has fled from a church, grows up as he runs from the nuns pursuing him. This protagonist is both a symbol of postwar Japan and a projection of KANAI himself. A new surrealist film in which various fantasies are interwoven with the filmmaker’s own experiences and postwar history.
