Holy Theater was KANAI’s first work shot on video. The camera focuses on wild birds and insects who visit a small fountain in a garden. A record of relaxed daily life eventually transforms into thoughts of comrades who have passed away. Super Documentary: The Avant-Garde Senjutsu is a documentary about “Katsumaru” as he trains to overcome aging. Incorporating various random elements such as the raising of a turtledove chick, the result is a humorous work in which digital images are used as a new “senjutsu (supernatural art)” that was popular at overseas film festivals as well as in Japan.
