The choreographed warmup exercises of a suburban junior high school girls\u2019 basketball club are performed in front of a drop curtain in a school gymnasium in a distinctly ritualistic manner. Compared to the \u201cdynamic\u201d impression given by the artist\u2019s photographs of the same scene, this moving image work shot with a fixed camera is extremely \u201cstatic.\u201d This work in which the camera carefully documents the girls\u2019 choreographed movements also serves as a portrait of society itself.
