KAMIOKA Fumie: From Memory Images to Inner Images

6 works, 93 min.

KAMIOKA Fumie won the Image Forum Festival Encouragement Prize for A Wisdom Tooth (1993) and Jury Prize for Cordyceps Sobolifera (1994). One of the leading artists during the rise of female filmmakers in the 1990s, she studied under SUZUKI Shirouyasu, who fostered many talented artists at Tama Art University. Her works take as their subjects the figure of her grandmother or everyday scenes from her family home, and begin by expanding upon remembered images. This gaze then turns away from the quotidian and delves into the interior of the filmmaker herself, bringing forth a unique, fantastical world.
