\u2013\u2013\u2013I\u2019d like to ask both of you about your style of production, including task sharing.<\/strong><\/p>\n

OKUNO Miwa<\/strong>: First, we used footage of a visual work of dance. At the time, we had the cinematographer operate our camera. Yohei edited the footage we got. Later, we would make image video footage to be used in introducing a new dance number. With things like this, Yohei was in charge of the sound and I, the overall creative imaging of the video and its picture content. Yohei edited what I edited, and what he edited would come back to me. I think there were many instances in this film where we used this pattern of production.<\/p>\n

\u2013\u2013\u2013Does the title have any meaning?<\/strong><\/p>\n

OKUNO Miwa<\/strong>: \u00a0\u201cABITA\u201d was the name of the condominium we lived in at the time. It seems the name refers to a place, space and architecture of inhabitation. We used the same title of \u201cABITA\u201d for our other forms of expressions, including performances and visual installations, where we created an image of space in which items and the human body inhabit equally as substance. Our first work we completed was made out of a wish to connect articles in our home to my body. With Covid-19 spreading, we thought of creating our visual work at home, and started by conversing with items in our residence. In times of conducting performances, we took all the furniture to the venue. What we had at home would jump and move to another space. It would bring out an atmosphere similar to home but at a different location. It was like our furniture took residence there.<\/p>\n

\u2013\u2013\u2013In this film, I found not only human movement but movement of many items like drum barrels rolling and cables wavering. Now, do you also interpret such movements of items as dance?<\/strong><\/p>\n

OKUNO Miwa<\/strong>: \u00a0I don\u2019t have much of a sense of such movement being dance. You passively grasp the individual texture of such items as desks and rope and begin sensing them with your skin. That sets the platform on how we, humans, move with these items as one entity. So, I feel it would be nice if all this could serve to observe the border line between active and happening-based movement. And so, if asked whether this is dance, I\u2019d say, really?<\/p>\n

FUJISHIRO Yohei<\/strong>: In the first place, there are many instances where we produce our works in an effort to do away with any border line distinguishing human movement from movement of items.<\/p>\n

\u2013\u2013\u2013What intention if any did you have in presenting a river which appears in the beginning of the film?<\/strong><\/p>\n

FUJISHIRO Yohei<\/strong>: We do like rivers. It might be the same river, but the water that flows, keeps changing. This is a theme that overlaps in the film. I feel a river is a symbolic item. I feel it was good, including it in our film.<\/p>\n
