\u2013\u2013\u2013Tell us how you came to produce films.<\/strong><\/p>\n

14-15 years ago, I was working as a motion graphics designer. The starting point of all this came when I began studying photographic production from a completely different background, namely through the context of art. Yet I\u2019ve always had this strong feeling since I was a child, of wanting to create stories. So, I believe this inevitably led me to the production of video. In the beginning, I was producing video using a style where the modernity of Korea and the world were put into perspective through historical events, to which I added fiction to microscopic problems. It was about 2017 that my style entered its current phase in a full-fledged manner. You can call this the speculative fiction method where a story world would be constructed based on my imagination through which it also narrates on the world today. As with this film, I was influenced by the Japanese science-fiction author, Ren Hanna.<\/p>\n

\u2013\u2013\u2013Now, how did you come up with this film?<\/strong><\/p>\n

What actually triggered my film was the Covid-19 pandemic. At the time I felt cramped not being able to leave Seoul but as a result, I was able to thoroughly observe every corner of the city, something I never even thought about. Looking out my window, I could see there were fewer taxis and buses running and that the outside appeared extremely quiet. Only delivery people riding their motorbikes at top speed seemed busy. Despite the fact that I\u2019d never seen any of their faces, it struck me as deeply interesting to realize how much we relied on these people for our livelihood. So, I wanted to talk to them. After interviewing a delivery woman with 6 years on the job for a few times, I wanted to experience her line of work, myself. So, for 3 days I rode on the back of her motorbike. It was an intense experience. Physically, you continue riding your motorbike at breakneck speed. At the same time, you\u2019re communicating information constantly in a completely different dimension through a small application right in front of you. In other words, you ride your motorbike through the city streets but at the same time, your mind is looking at a completely different world. So, I made this film by adding fictional elements which I love to do, to the setting of the story which I came up with through this experience. The film is also a love story for two women.<\/p>\n

\u2013\u2013\u2013What meaning does \u201cdancer\u201d in the film title carry?<\/strong><\/p>\n

These delivery motorbike riders keep records of \u201chow I went about today\u201d in order to share this information amongst themselves. I found that this data looked like tracing the tracks of a dance. Each delivery motorbike rider is assigned to an area and knows every corner of his or her territory. That\u2019s probably why they don\u2019t venture outside of their area. Moving about and around the same area using complex routes. And receiving new orders while doing so means there\u2019s no end to the creation of new routes. I saw this situation as being trapped in a circular labyrinth. So, I depicted the movement of these people who are tossed around like this as \u201cdancers\u201d in their \u201cspheres.\u201d<\/p>\n
