\u2013\u2013\u2013This is a sequel to \u201cRoberto\u201d made in 2019. Does that mean you were continuously shooting footage?<\/strong><\/p>\n

You can say that I consolidated the footage I began taking in 2016 and made it into a film in 2019. I then shot footage for about 4 years and made it into this new film.<\/p>\n

\u2013\u2013\u2013I had the impression that the first film depicted a one-to-one relationship between yourself and Roberto. However, I felt that this new film broadens the outlook of things by bringing in a third person.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This came about on account of doing several screenings of my previous film. Listening to people in the audience, I began seeing a network in the city that was involved with Roberto. I really didn\u2019t notice that at first. However, if someone came when I was with Roberto, I wanted to see what the person had to say. I kept shooting footage as long as the person didn\u2019t mind me doing so.<\/p>\n

\u2013\u2013\u2013Compared to your older film. I feel there\u2019s more of a conscious effort in Roberto making your new film with you.<\/strong><\/p>\n

In the first place, he had many ideas and was the kind of person who would even give me advice. I might have disagreed, but that may have overlapped in the film, which I found interesting. Now this may be a change of consciousness on my part, but I was the one holding the camera and I had a home, food and money. Roberto was the one being filmed. He would change his abode a lot. He would eat what was available at the moment. I thought if I could only build a relationship with him, that would appear in the camerawork. Yet there was a time when the camera depicted differences between the two. That\u2019s when my consciousness changed in wanting the film to show more of our conversation and relationship.<\/p>\n

\u2013\u2013\u2013You\u2019ve made films before that show yourself in a more performance- oriented manner. Now, are you making this Roberto series with a different consciousness?<\/strong><\/p>\n

You might get that impression because the character of Roberto is so strong. Yet even if I shoot footage of Roberto, the film will also show fragments of myself and my family. So, in a sense, I have this consciousness of documenting myself. By turning Roberto into a mirror, I feel I\u2019m looking at myself in the film.<\/p>\n

\u2013\u2013\u2013That has something to do with the title of your new film, doesn\u2019t it?<\/strong><\/p>\n

It all boils down to who the film directs its attention to. Of course, this is about Roberto, but those who are involved with him including myself, also come into the picture. In the end it\u2019s about \u201cwho owns the story.\u201d The film doesn\u2019t provide the answer. I guess the question of \u201cwho owns the story\u201d rests within myself, so I went ahead and used that as the title of the film.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
