Documentaries raise questions about conventional accounts of history and give rise to polysemic interpretations in those who view them. The “efficacy” that must now be found in documentaries is not only conveying the “truth,” but also breaking down what is conveyed as “truth” and demonstrating the possibility of multiple other “truths.” Focusing on the theme of “Tangling Lines of Sight: Narratives and Documentaries,” at Image Forum Festival 2024 we search for moving image expression as a point where several different truths are tangled together.
