TAKAHASHI Lyota

digital / color / 7min. / 2018 / Japan

A work based on my own experience as someone who stopped going to school, it presents feelings that cannot escape from the past through moving images. “Having stopped going to school for two and a half years when I was in middle school, I was able to face the past while I was a student.” If by teaching many people about these things through video on the Internet I can help even one person I will be happy. (T.L.)

A dark, deserted classroom. The point of view sinks toward the floor, and keeps descending to lower layers. The perspective that keeps going down as though trying to get away cannot escape from an endless number of underlying classrooms. Finally the classroom becomes distorted and is swallowed by waves that push the desks and chairs out of the windows. In the end…. An attempt by a survivor who stopped attending school during a sensitive period to contact those who come after by a “certain method.”(Y.S.)
